Jodl, Alfred (1890-1946)

German general. In World War II he was in effect responsible for most German operations outside the USSR and he drew up the Nazi government's plan for the attack on Yugoslavia, Greece, and the USSR. In January 1945 he became Chief of Staff and headed the delegation that signed Germany's surrender in Reims 7 May 1945. He was tried for war crimes in Nürnberg 1945-46 and hanged.
