John, Barry (1945– )| Welsh rugby union player. One in a line of great Welsh fly-halves, he played a leading role in the British Lions' first ever series win in New Zealand in 1971. He was first capped for Wales against Australia in 1966, and gained a total of 25 caps, nearly all in combination with his Cardiff team mate Gareth Edwards. In 1968 he toured South Africa with the British Lions, playing in one test. Three years later he scored a record 188 points on the Lions' unbeaten tour of Australia and New Zealand. He retired in 1972, aged just 27. |
