Burke, John (1859–1937)

US Democratic governor, federal official, and judge. He served in the North Dakota state senate 1893–95, was the governor of North Dakota 1907–12, and treasurer of the USA 1913–21. He served on the North Dakota Supreme Court 1925–37.

He was born in Keokuk County, Iowa, and moved to the Dakota Territory in 1888. North Dakota has placed his statue in the US Capitol.
