John o' Groats

John o' Groats, on the Pentland Firth in the far northeast of Scotland, is often mistakenly thought to be mainland Britain's most northerly point. This distinction in fact belongs to Dunnet Head, just along the coast at the western end of the Pentland Firth.
Village in the northeast of the Highland unitary authority, Scotland, about 3 km/2 mi west of Duncansby Head, the furthest point from Land's End on the British mainland.
It is named after the Dutchman John de Groot, who built a house there in the 16th century. There are ferry connections to Burwick on South Ronaldsay.
