Scientists have known about the greenhouse effect since the 1870s, when it was quantified in experiments by British physicist John Tyndall. Bell Labs scientist Andrew Chraplyvy, a pioneer in the development of high-capacity optical fiber communications systems, received the Optical Society of America's 2003 John Tyndall Award today at the international Optical Fiber Communications (OFC) conference, which is taking place here this week. |
