Giambologna (1529-1608)Flemish-born sculptor. He was active mainly in Florence and Bologna. In 1583 he completed his public commission for the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, The Rape of the Sabine Women, a dynamic group of muscular, contorted figures and a prime example of Mannerist sculpture. He also produced the Neptune Fountain 1563-67 in Bologna and the equestrian statues of the Medici grand dukes Cosimo and Ferdinando. How to thank TFD for its existence?
