Johns, William (1936- )

US tenor. He made his debut at Lake George in 1967, as Rodolfo. His European debut was with the Bremen Opera, and he then sang with the Welsh National Opera 1970-72, as Radames and Calaf. He has also sung at Dallas, Hamburg, Houston, Vienna, and the New York Metropolitan Opera House. His debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, was in 1987, as Bacchus. In 1988 he appeared in Philadelphia as Florestan, and he sang Tristan at San Francisco in 1991. Other roles include Siegfried, Lohengrin, Tannhäuser, and Strauss's Emperor.
