Johnson, William (1771-1834)

US Supreme Court justice. He served in the South Carolina legislature 1794-98, the state's high court 1798-1804, and the US Supreme Court 1804-34. He established the model for recording dissenting court opinions.

He was born in Charleston, South Carolina.

Johnson, William (1715-1774)

Irish-born American colonial baron and Indian agent. He gained the full confidence of the Iroquois tribes, especially Mohawks. He became their agent in 1754 and led militiamen and Iroquois in a victory over the French at Lake George in 1755.

He was born in Smithtown, Ireland. He was knighted for leading the victory over the French.
