Johnson County

Administrative district in northeastern Kansas; area 1,238 sq km/478 sq mi, population (1990) 355,100. Johnson County lies south of the Kansas River, and has its seat at the city of Olathe; the other major city here is Overland Park.

The northeastern part of the county is largely occupied by the affluent residential suburbs of Kansas City. The remainder is agricultural, with livestock, grain, dairy products, oil, and natural gas all contributing to the economy.
