Johnson, Martin Osborne (1970- )English rugby union second row forward.He captained the British Lions on their victorious tour of South Africa in 1997 and led England to the World Cup in 2003. He was a bulwark of the England scrum since making his international debut in 1993, and was a key member of the England team that won four successive Triple Crowns in the Five Nations (later Six Nations) championship 1995-98, including the Grand Slam in 1995. In May 1999, Johnson replaced Lawrence Dallaglio as England captain. In May 2001, he was appointed captain for the British Lions' summer tour to Australia, becoming the first person to captain the Lions on more than one tour. In 2003 he led England to the Grand Slam in the Six Nations Championship. He retired shortly after leading England to victory in the 2003 World Cup final against Australia, having captained his country 39 times.
