Johnston

Town in Providence County, north-central Rhode Island; population (1990) 26,500. It borders on Providence to the east and Cranston to the south.

Johnston was an agricultural community before textile mills were established here in the 19th century. The modern economy is based on insurance services and the manufacture of worsted yarns, machinery, jewellry, fabricated metals, and textiles.
