Johnston, Thomas (c. 1708-c. 1767)

American engraver. He engraved maps, scenes of battles and cities, bookplates. He also worked with japan (a glossy black lacquer) and built organs. He is known for his Plan of Boston c. 1727-29, and the earliest engraving of an American historical event, The Battle of Lake George 1755.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts.
