Jolie, Angelina (1975- )

US actor. She gained critical acclaim for her performance as a charismatic, controlling psychopath in the film Girl, Interrupted (1999), for which she won Academy and Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress.

Jolie was born in Los Angeles, California, and attended the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York. Her other films include Hackers (1995), Foxfire (1996), Playing God (1997), Pushing Tin (1999), The Bone Collector (1999), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), Tomb Raider (2001), Life, or Something Like It (2002), Beyond Borders (2003), Taking Lives (2004), and Alexander (2004).

Known for her sensuous mouth and early ‘bad girl’ image, she worked as a professional model in London, New York, and Los Angeles and appeared in videos of the Rolling Stones, Meatloaf, and Lenny Kravitz. She made her feature film debut in Cyborg 2 (1993) and received critical acclaim for her roles in the TV films George Wallace (1997) and Gia (1998).

She is the daughter of US actor Jon Voight. She was married to British actor Jonny Lee Miller 1995-99 and US actor Billy Bob Thornton 2000-03.
