Joliette

City and seat of Joliette County, in southern Québec; population (1991) 17,400. The city lies on the River L'Assomption 60 km/37 mi northeast of Montréal, in a prosperous farming region near the Laurentians.

Joliette was founded in the 1820s, and is home to various manufacturing industries, producing foods and beverages, clothing, textiles, tyres, and building materials. It is also a cultural and service centre for the region, with a renowned summer music festival.

For all I know, this picture may still adorn the parlour of the tumbledown little house somewhere near the Quai de la Joliette, and I suppose it could now be sold for fifteen hundred pounds.
