Joll, Philip (1954- )

Welsh baritone. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, and with Hotter and Goodall. He performed with the Welsh National Opera from 1979, as Orestes, Amfortas, Kurwenas, Barak, and Wotan (which he also sang at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London in 1986). He made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in 1982, in Salome. His New York Metropolitan Opera House debut was in 1987, as Donner in Das Rheingold. He sang Wagner's Dutchman at the 1988-89 Bregenz Festival, and Verdi's Francesco Foscari at the 1993 Edinburgh Festival.
