Jones, Daniel (Jenkyn) (1912–1993)

Welsh composer. He began composing at a very early age and later produced a large quantity of music, including 12 symphonies, eight string quartets, and five string trios.

He studied at University College, Swansea, where he read English, and later at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He studied conducting with Sir Henry Wood and composition with Harry Farjeon. He was awarded an OBE in 1968.

Works Stage operas The Knife (1963) and Orestes (1967); incidental music for Under Milk Wood (Dylan Thomas).

Orchestral 12 symphonies (1944–90); symphonic poems Cystuddiau Branwen, Cloud Messenger; concertino for piano and orchestra.

Chamber eight string quartets, string quintet, five string trios, violin sonata, cello sonata, piano sonata, sonata for kettledrums, wind septet, wind nonet.
