Jones, Della (1946– )

Welsh mezzo. She studied at the Royal College of Music, London, and in Geneva, and made her debut at the Opéra there in 1970, as Fyodor in Boris Godunov. She sung with the Sadler's Wells Theatre, London/English National Opera Ensemble from 1973 in The Devils of Loudun (her debut), as Rossini's Rosina and Ninetta, as Sextus in Julius Caesar and as Dolly in the first performance of Hamilton's Anna Karenina (1981). She made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1983, in L'Enfant et les Sortilèges, returning as the Marchesa Melibea in Il Viaggio a Reims in 1992. Her US debut was in 1986, as Ruggiero in Alcina at Los Angeles. Roles with the Welsh National Opera include Dido in Les Troyens, Brangaena (1993) and Ariodante (1994).
