Jones, Joseph

Jones, Joseph (1833–1896)

US physician. In 1872 he joined the faculty at the University of Louisiana and served on the State Board of Health 1880–84 where he worked to improve sanitary conditions in New Orleans. He studied diseases endemic to the American South and he wrote on a wide range of subjects.

He was born in Liberty County, Georgia. He enlisted in the Confederate cavalry, but was transferred to the medical corps since he was a doctor.
