Jones, Owen Thomas (1878-1967)

Welsh geologist. As Professor of Geology at the University of Cambridge (1930-43), he became an authority on the Lower Palaeozoic rocks of Wales.

Jones was born at Newcastle Emlyn, Cardiganshire. He held professorships in geology at Aberystwyth, Manchester, and Cambridge. He was twice president of the Geological Society, a vice-president of the Royal Society, and was awarded the Royal Medal of the Royal Society in 1956.
