Jones, Philip (Mark) (1928– )

English trumpet player and administrator. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London, and was principal with leading London orchestras 1948–71. He founded the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, and was its director 1951–86. He was head of wind and percussion at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, 1975–77, and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, 1983–88. He was principal of Trinity College of Music, London, 1989–94, and was awarded a CBE in 1986.
