Jones, Philip (Mark) (1928- )

English trumpet player and administrator. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London, and was principal with leading London orchestras 1948-71. He founded the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, and was its director 1951-86. He was head of wind and percussion at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, 1975-77, and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, 1983-88. He was principal of Trinity College of Music, London, 1989-94, and was awarded a CBE in 1986.
