Jones, Thomas P

Jones, Thomas P (1774–1848)

English-born US engineer and publisher. He was cofounder (1825), publisher, and editor of American Mechanics Magazine. He took a teaching post at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in 1826 and merged his magazine with that of the Institute, it becoming the Journal of the Franklin Institute. He served as superintendent 1828–37 then examiner 1837–38 of the US Patent Office.

Born in Herefordshire, he emigrated as a youth to the USA.
