Jones, William Richard (1839–1889)

US engineer who was one of Andrew Carnegie's most expert and trusted steel mill superintendents, both because of his knowledge of steel production and his ability to manage the workers. He introduced many innovations to the industry, such as the Jones mixer and armour-plated hoses.

He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania. As a youth he worked in iron foundaries and other trades. He served with distinction in the US Civil War.
