Joplin

City in Jasper and Newton counties, southwest Missouri, near the Ozark Plateau, 110 km/68 mi west of Springfield; population (2000) 45,500. It is the centre of an agricultural region; industries include chemicals, explosives, hydraulic pumps, zinc and lead smelting, leather goods, and furniture. Joplin is the home of Ozark Christian College (1942) and Missouri Southern State College (1965).

Joplin was founded in 1871 and was incorporated in 1873, when two competing post-Civil War mining towns were united in 1873.

The couple had been longtime activists in Santa Clarita before moving to Joplin in April 2004 to be closer to their son, Christian.
Due's Joplin is a tragic figure, and the author does a fantastic job of exploring who the composer was and how his experiences were shaped by the times in which he lived.
Farmland operated the Joplin plant for about 50 years.
