Jos Plateau

Large highland massif in north-central Nigeria. Rugged granite hills rise from the plateau surface, which is 1,200 m/3,937 ft to 1,500 m/4,921 ft above sea-level, and is bounded by steep escarpments leading down to the Benue River to the south and the Hausaland plains to the west. The plateau is the centre of the Nigerian tin industry. There is also dairy and maize production.
