Joubert, Joseph

Joubert, Joseph (1754–1824)

French moralist and critic. In 1778 he was adopted by literary circles in Paris and became a friend of Chateaubriand who published his work for the first time (Recueil des pensées 1838). Other posthumous works include Pensées, essais et maximes 1838 and the Lettres à ses amis 1842. His book Carnets was published 1955.
