Jouvet, Louis

Jouvet, Louis (1887–1951)

French actor and director. He set up his own company in 1922 at the Comédie des Champs-Elysées and became a director of the Comédie Française in 1940. He was long associated with the dramatist Jean Giraudoux, directing almost all his plays and acting in them. He was also a skilled interpreter of such Molière characters as Tartuffe, Géronte, and Don Juan.
