Jovovich, Milla (1975- )

Ukranian-born US actor and singer. An exotic beauty with a successful modelling career, she is known for her roles as a commando in the action films Resident Evil (2001) and its sequel Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004).

She starred in the sequel Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991), before achieving roles in a range of films over the next decade, for example the teen slacker film Dazed and Confused (1993), the science-fiction thriller The Fifth Element (1996), the Spike Lee drama He Got Game (1998), and the Ben Stiller comedy Zoolander (2001). Jovovich also received critical acclaim in the title role in the biopic The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999). In 1994 she released the album The Divine Comedy, featuring the folk-inspired single ‘Gentlemen Who Fell’, which became an alternative rock hit.

She was born in Kiev, Ukraine. She moved with her family to Sacramento, California, at the age of five, and began modelling professionally before adolescence. She was married to film director Luc Besson 1997-99.
