Juan de Fuca, Strait of

Channel on the Pacific coast of North America connecting Puget Sound with the Pacific Ocean, and separating Vancouver Island to the north from the state of Washington to the south. It extends for about 140 km/87 mi, with a width of 20 km/12 mi. The San Juan Islands lie within its eastern mouth, and form a county within Washington state.
