Judd, James (1949– )

English conductor. He studied at Trinity College of Music, London, and worked at the London Opera Centre and with the Cleveland Orchestra. He was associate conductor of the European Community Youth Orchestra in 1978, and co-founder and conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe from 1987. He led Cenerentola at Glyndebourne in 1985, and Trovatore, Figaro and Rigoletto for the English National Opera Ensemble. He made his US opera debut with Don Giovanni at Miami in 1988, and was artistic director of the Greater Miami Opera from 1993. He has been a guest conductor with the Vienna and Prague symphony orchestras and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and has toured with the London Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic.
