Juilliard School

Music school and college founded in New York, USA, in 1924, financed by the will of Augustus D Juilliard, a cotton merchant. One of the world's leading conservatories, it moved in 1969 to its current location, the newly built Lincoln Center. The Juilliard Quartet was founded in 1946 by the school's president William Schumann, and became famous initially for its interpretation of Bartók's works.
