Juive, La

Opera by Jacques Halévy (libretto by Augustin Scribe), first produced at the Paris Opéra, France, on 23 February 1835. Prince Leopold, posing as a Jew, woos Rachel, the apparent daughter of the Jewish goldsmith Eléazar. When Rachel discovers the deception, and that Leopold is married, she denounces him. All three face trial for inter-racial love, and Rachel and Eléazar are executed.
