Julia gens

    0.09 sec.

Julia gens

Patrician clan (gens) of ancient Rome. Its best-known family was that of the Julii Caesares, which included Gaius Julius Caesar. The Julia gens claimed descent from Iulus (sometimes called Ascanius), the son of Aeneas and grandson of Venus and Anchises.

The Julia gens originated from Alba Longa, which Iulus is supposed to have founded. On the destruction of that city the Julia gens were removed to Rome by the king of Rome, Tullus Hostilius.
