Juni, Juan de

    0.02 sec.

Juni, Juan de (c. 1507–1577)

French-born Spanish sculptor. His early works include architectural portrait medallions (1536) for the facade of the Church of San Marcos, León. He is best known for the polychromed wood carving The Entombment of Christ (1539–44, Valladolid Museum), an expression of his great technical skill and also the emotionalism popular in Spanish art at this time.

Probably born in Burgundy, Juni moved to León in 1533, and settled in Valladolid in 1540.
