Junk art

Junk art

Any art – usually sculpture – which is made from waste or scrap materials of any kind, domestic or industrial. It has its origins in cubist and Dadaist collage, and in particular the works of Kurt Schwitters. One of the best-known exponents is the French sculptor César, who exhibited cars that had been compressed into solid blocks. Junk art is often a comment on 20th-century consumerism and industrialization. See also assemblage.
