Junker

Member of the landed aristocracy in Prussia; favoured by Frederick the Great and Bismarck, they controlled land, industry, trade, and the army, and exhibited privilege and arrogance. From the 15th century until the 1930s they were the source of most of the Prussian civil service and officer corps.
