Juno Beach

Beach in Normandy used by Canadian troops during the D-Day landings, on 6 June 1944, although it was technically in the centre of the British sector.

Initial resistance by the Germans caused a build-up on the beach, leading to an immense traffic jam when the troops eventually began to move inland. By midnight some 21,500 troops and their equipment had landed and the Canadian brigade had reached 11 km/7 mi inland to link up with the British on Gold Beach.
