Justin, St (c. 100–c. 163)
One of the early Christian leaders and writers known as the Fathers of the Church. Born in Palestine of a Greek family, he was converted to Christianity and wrote two Apologies in its defence. He spent the rest of his life as an itinerant missionary, and was martyred in Rome. Feast day 1 June.
