McCarthy, Justin (1830–1912)

Irish historian, novelist, journalist, and politician. He was Home Rule member at different periods for Longford County, North Longford, and Londonderry. He was chairman of the Home Rule party 1890–96.

He was born in Cork. He began his working life as a journalist, but from 1879 devoted himself increasingly to politics.
