Königskinder

Opera by Engelbert Humperdinck (libretto by E Rosmer), first produced as a play with accompanying music in Munich, Germany, on 23 January 1897; the operatic version was first produced at the New York Metropolitan Opera House on 28 December 1910. The story tells how a goose-girl escapes from the witch and is united with the king's son, but both are rejected by the townspeople, and die after eating the witch's poisoned bread.
