KV tank

Soviet heavy tank of World War II; the initials stood for Klimenti Voroshilov, the minister of war at the time of their approval in 1940. Almost impervious to German anti-tank guns 1941–43, the KV was a serious threat, particularly after 1943 when the 76 mm gun was replaced by a more powerful 85 mm gun.
