Kašlik, Václav (1917–1989)

Czech composer, conductor, and producer. He collaborated with the designer Josef Svoboda in Prague and elsewhere with productions that used advanced techniques of lighting and film projection, including the first performances of Luigi Nono's Intolleranza 60 in Venice, Italy, in 1961 and Pelléas et Mélisande at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, England, in 1969.

He worked at theatres in Prague and Brno during World War II, and in 1945 revived the Prague Grand Opera, which became the National Theatre in 1948. He produced operas by Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů, including the first performance of Mirandolina (1959).
