KaabaIn Mecca, Saudi Arabia, an oblong building in the quadrangle of the Great Mosque, into the northeastern corner of which is built the Black Stone declared by the prophet Muhammad to have been given to Abraham by the archangel Gabriel, and revered by Muslims. By using special compasses or noting the position of the qiblah wall within the mosque, Muslims are able to face towards the Kaaba when they pray, and it is the focus of the hajj (pilgrimage).
