Kaga

Japanese aircraft carrier. Originally designed as a battleship, it was converted during building and completed as a carrier in 1928, then modernized in 1935.

The Kaga carried part of the strike force which attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941 and subsequently served in the South Pacific and Indian Oceans. At the Battle of Midway in May 1942 it was hit by four US bombs; uncontrollable fires broke out, leading to a violent explosion which sank it.

With a displacement of 38,100 tons and a speed of 28.5 knots, it carried 90 aircraft and was formidably armed with ten 8 in and sixteen 5 in guns.

Ida was in her boudoir, a tiny little tapestried room, as neat and dainty as herself, with low walls hung with Imari plaques and with pretty little Swiss brackets bearing blue Kaga ware, or the pure white Coalport china.
