Kalamazoo County

County in southwestern Michigan; area 1,456 sq km/562 sq mi; population (1990) 223,400. Its capital is Kalamazoo, which dominates the county's economy with its educational institutions and industry. It is a region of many small lakes, and a rich farming area that raises peppermint, fruit, grain, livestock, and dairy cattle.

The county is drained by the Portage and Kalamazoo rivers

Collaborating with public and private entities in Kalamazoo County and the State of Michigan, Southwest Michigan First "developed an aggressive incentive package and provided comprehensive development services, including road improvements, sewer extension, the creation of a new municipal water system for Charleston Township and the remediation of 10 acres of wetlands," the agency notes on its Web site.
Bill Fales, associate professor of Emergency Medicine at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and medical director of the Kalamazoo County (MI) Emergency Medical Services System.
The series is hosted by the Kalamazoo Bank Consortium, a formal association of eleven bank executives from Kalamazoo County who have come together to assist Southwest Michigan First in its economic development efforts.
