Kamloops| City in southern British Columbia, Canada, on the Thompson tributary of the Fraser River and the Trans-Canada Highway; population (2006) 70,100. It is the distributing centre of a timber-processing and ranching district, and a junction on the Canadian Pacific Railway. Tourism – including fishing, windsurfing, sailing, and mountain tours – has become important to the local economy, and other industries include food processing, wood-pulp production, and oil refining. It is home to Cariboo Community College. |
