Kanata

City in southeastern Ontario, Canada, on the Ottawa River, 19 km/12 mi west of Ottawa; population (1991) 37,300. A planned community initiated in 1964, it has become a centre of semiconductor, laser, and other high-tech industries, and continues to grow rapidly as a residential suburb.
