Kaneohe

Community in the east of Oahu Island, Hawaii, 14 km/9 mi northeast of Honolulu; population (2000) 35,000. It extends from the foothills of the Koolau Range to Kaneohe Bay.

This windward community was once the residence of Oahu's early kings. Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Air Station is nearby. The University of Hawaii's Marine Laboratory is on Moku o'Loe (Coconut Island), one of the few coral islands in the bay. Hawaii Loa (1963) and Windward Community (1972) colleges are here.
