Kankan

Town and capital of Haute-Guinée province, Guinea, situated on the banks of the Milo River; population (1996) 100,200, (2007 calc) 117,200. The centre for the Malinke people and also for the remote Nimba Mountains area in the southeast, Kankan is linked by rail and road with Conakry on the coast, 520 km/323 mi to the west. Industries include petroleum storage and distribution.

The property is centred 30 km east of Kankan, a major regional centre in Guinea and 700 km east of Conakry, the capital city of Guinea.
The propaganda at the time was that the famous oracle at Kankan had predicted that a descendant of Samori Toure would revenge his defeat in the hands of the French.
