Kannapolis

City in west-central North Carolina, 40 km/25 mi northeast of Charlotte; population (2000) 36,900. It main products include towels, blankets, sheets, and pillowcases.

Established in 1877, Cannon Mills (now Fieldcrest Cannon), one of the world's leading household textile manufacturers, built the town around its mills in 1906; it remained an unincorporated company town for decades.
